Fetal platelets may be destroyed by the mother’s anti-platelet (-HPA) -1a alloantibodies (NAITP). The response of this antibody to homozygous women is limited by the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) (DRB3 * 0101) and therefore its T cells inhibit leucine 33 (HPA-la )reaction. The authors studied peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of T cells in vitro in HPA-1a alloimmunized T cells against HPA-1a and HPA-1b polypeptides (aa 20-39 and aa 24-45). Peptides and control antigens were added to PBMCs and T cell proliferation responses were analyzed for 3H thymidine uptake. The authors tested 17 samples from 10 women: seven samples of five women were weakly positive for HPA-1a polypeptide responses and two samples of women with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) also tested for HPA-1b ( 20-39) polypeptide was weakly positive. The other 10 samples
