In the experimental study of atherosclerosis, the establishment of a suitable animal model is of great significance. At present, most of the animals used are rabbits, pigeons, dogs, pigs and non-human primates, among which rabbits are most commonly used. Although the above-mentioned animals have their own characteristics, there are common problems such as more complicated experimental conditions and higher prices. Moreover, rabbits are herbivorous animals, and their lipid metabolism characteristics are quite different from those of humans. There are certain difficulties in the comparative evaluation of lipid nutrients. To this end, we used scanning electron microscopy to observe the effect of high-fat diet on rat aorta to explore the possibility of using rats for experimental studies of atherosclerosis.
