For Japanese football, the World Cup started in 1994, so that’s not an exaggeration. Although the Japanese team participated in the 1954 World Cup qualifier in Switzerland, but only played two matches with South Korea (1 negative and 1 eliminated), is entirely involved. When the 1994 World Cup qualifier was first played (1993), the situation changed a lot, at a time when the J League was founded and football became a social phenomenon in Japan. In the recent 20 years, the Japanese national team has experienced a total of nine head coaches. Selecting a few representative coaches here and reviewing their tactical ideas and achievements can help to understand the development of Japanese football.
