明代医学家李时珍,曾在《本草纲目》中写下这样一段话:“胡椒大辛热,纯阳之物……时珍自少食之,岁岁病且,而不疑及也。后渐知其弊,遂痛绝之,病目亦止。”据说,李时珍年轻时经常患眼病,却始终找不出病因。后来渐渐发觉年年复发的眼疾,竟与自己平时爱吃的胡椒有关。于是在停食胡椒一段时间,眼病康复后,又试吃了一两粒,很快就觉得双目干涩,视力模糊。为此,特在撰写《本草纲目》收录胡椒时予以指出,以示后人。

To this end, especially in composing “Compendium of Materia Medica” included pepper to be pointed out to show future generations.
