Indian litchi is grown more on calcareous soil, especially in Bihar, where the soil contains as much as 40.5% free calcium carbonate. At present, lychee is more mature in India with a short harvest period of only 20 days, while mango cultivars have a much longer maturity (about 40 days). In production, farmers want to extend the harvest of litchi fruit, so as to avoid concentrated recovery of the market price decline. The harvest of litchi is usually from the last week of May until mid-June. This period often due to dry hot air, burning and cracking fruit and seriously affect the litchi yield and quality. Application of growth regulators to promote premature fruit ripening has been shown to be effective for certain fruit tree varieties (Singh et al., 1978).
