What you have to do is just follow your instincts and feelings(跟着感觉走就是了)。

Magic, Mystery and Mayhem
--interviewee:J·K·Rowling
Amazon Greenlaw(以下简称G): Did you want to be an author when you were young?
JK Rowling(以下简称R): Yes, I have wanted to be an author as long as I can remember. (1) English was always my favorite subject at school, so why I went on to do a degree in French is anyone’s guess.(2)
G: How old were you when you started to write, and what was your first book?
R: I wrote my first finished story when I was about 6. It was about a rabbit called Rabbit. Very imaginative. (3) I have been writing ever since.
G: Why did you choose to be an author?
R: If someone asked for my recipe for happiness,(4)step one would be finding out what you love doing most in the world, and step two would be finding someone to pay you to do it. I consider myself very lucky indeed to be able to support myself by writing.(5)
G: Do you have any plans to write books for adults?
R: My first two novels-which I never tried to get published-were for adults. I suppose I might write another one, but I never really imagine a target audience when I'm writing. The ideas come first, so it really depends on the idea that grabs me next.
G: Where did the ideas for Harry Potter books come from? (6)
R: I have no idea(7) where ideas come from, and I hope I never find out(8), it would spoil the excitement(9) for me if it turned out(10). I just have a funny little wrinkle on the surface of my brain which makes me think about invisible train platforms. (11)
G: Are your characters based on the people you know?
R: Some of them are, but I have to be extremely careful what I say about this. Mostly, real people inspire a character, but once they are inside your head, they start turning into something quite different.(12) Professor Snape and Gilderoy Lockhart both started as exaggerated versions of people I’ve met,(13) but became rather different once I got them on the page. Hermione is a bit like me when I was 11, though much cleverer.
G: Where did the ideas for the wizard classes and magic spells come from? (14)
R: I decided on the school subjects very early on. Most of the spells are invented, but some of them have a basis in what people used to believe worked. We owe a lot of our scientific knowledge to the alchemists!(15)
G: what ingredients do you think all the Harry Potter books need?
R: I never really think in terms of ingredients, but I suppose if I had to name some,I’d say humor, strong characters, and a watertight plot.(16)Those things would add up to the kind of book I enjoy reading myself. Oh, I forgot scariness-well, I never set out to make people sacred, but it does seem to creep in along the way.
G: What books did you read as a child? Have these influenced your writing in any way?
R: It is always hard to tell what your influences are. Everything you've seen. Experienced, read, or heard gets broken down like compost in your head and then your own ideas grow out of that compost. (17)Three books I read as a child do stand out in my memory,(18) though. One is The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge, which was probably my favorite book when I was younger. The second is Manxmouse by Paul Gallico, which is not Gallico’s most famous book, but I think it’s wonderful. The third is Grimble, by Clement Freud. Grimble is one of funniest books I have ever read, and Grimble himself, who is a small boy, is a fabulous character.(19) I’d love to see a Grimble film. As far as I know, these last two fine pieces of literature are out of print, (20)so if any publishers ever read this, could you please dust them off and put them back in print, so other people can read them?(21)

(我发现他最后还是来参加聚会了) / Did you ever find out why he left his last job?(你们是否查出他辞掉上一个工作的原因?)
(9)spoil the excitement
We had a party last night, but his arrival spoiled our excitement.(昨晚我们有个聚会,但是他的到来搅了我们的兴致)。
(10)turn out to是“变成”,It turns out to be true.(这件事变成真的了。)和“变成”想关的表示法是:”come”也有“变为”的意思,比如:Dream comes true.(梦想成真),hope your dreams come true.(祝你梦想成真) 另外,还有一个词组是“turn into”,注释(12)里也会提及,it turns into something different(它变成了俨然不同的东西)。 页),除此以外,我还可以这样表示:she has no idea of what to do, so she turns to me for help.
(11)on the surface of…
(12)once they are inside your head, they start turning into something quite different.(当他们走入了你的脑海中,就变成了完全不同的元素。)
(13)exaggerated versions of夸张的版本,She exaggerated fact.(她夸大了事实。)
I owe you some money.(我欠你的钱),故事中owe to表示“由…… We owe a lot of our scientific knowledge to the alchemists!
I suppose to do sth。(我想……)It supposed to be there(它应该放在那儿的)。
(17)“grow out of” 是“长大了,由….. My daughter has grown out of all her old clothes. (我女儿已长大,他所有的旧衣服都穿不了了) Peter’s ideas grow out of his love of music.
(18)“stand out” 是“突出,站出来”的意思,stand out in my memory是指:长驻在我的记忆里,在我的脑海里清晰地浮现。
This book is out of print.(这本书已经不再出版了。)
(21)“dust sth. off”是指“掸掉……
