Eighteenth-century novel “Pamela” was rage in the upper-middle class society, the author Richardson gave his personal bourgeois morality as the protagonist, and called “virtue.” However, due to the limitations and constraints of the middle class, this virtue is not only a tool for the middle class to resist the moral corruption in upper-class society, but also a way to recognize and thus share the power of society through compromise with the upper-class society. This thesis intends to explore the emancipation and essence of the moral construction in the 18th century from the different understandings of the German and German scholar Fielding on virtue.
