A combined time-resolved resonance Raman (TR3) spectroscopy experimental and density functional theoretical study of the ultraviolet photolysis of diiodomethane in cyclohexane and cyclohexen solvent was done. The transient resonance Raman experiments identified the CH2I-I is the photoproduct that is mainly responsible for the ~385 absorption formed following ultraviolet excitation of diiodomethane in liquid solutions (Figure 1).
