水井头煤矿位于湖南省邵东县境内,系涟邵矿业集团牛马司实业有限公司管辖。煤矿属煤与瓦斯突出矿井,建矿以来共发生煤与瓦斯突出21次。矿井相对瓦斯涌出量为33.4m~3/t,绝对瓦斯涌出量为6.79m~3/min。属自燃发火煤层,发火期一般在3～6个月,煤尘有爆炸危险性。
