我对“中国某某学之精神”一类提法向来有点警惕,担心它可能走入黑格尔式总体主义陷阱,但相信胡晓明所做的工作是值得的,在同类探究中摆脱时弊而独树一帜,为当代学界追溯中国文学理论传统留下一个可以回头顾盼的路碑.包兆会博士的评论把握了此书的史论与专论结合方法、文史哲贯通的理念及其分类剖析的特色,并给予了“在同类研究中出类拔萃”这一高度评价.
