1977年我省蓬莱县王格庄公社小柱大队的板栗丰产田亩产713斤,产量达到较高水平。分析其丰产的原因,除良种密植以外,加强肥水管理,提高了光合作用是其重要的原因之一。因为光合作用的强弱,对农林作物的产量有一定的影响。在品种、树龄相同,树体大小基本一致的情况下,我们测得丰产试验田的平均净光合为208毫克/分米~2/小时,平均株产13.51斤;大田的平均净光合为1.35毫克/分米~2/小时,平均株产则仅有6.39斤;山东省果树研究所院内栗地的平均净光合为0.37,基本绝产(见表1)。由此可见,光合作用的强弱与板栗产量有关。
