北卡罗来纳州大学园艺专家Michael A.Cohen指出,一种新的松树繁殖法能更迅速得到均匀优质的幼苗。用种子产生具有合乎理想特性的松树不一定可能。栽培者们决不能保证大多数实生苗具有优良的遗传性。目前,遗传本性只能由扦插、嫁接来获得。但这两种方法费时多、代价高,且由于砧穗不相容而不稳定。用针叶繁殖不仅比较简便,而且产生的幼苗能保持母树的遗传特性。一般选择5—7年生,材积、形状以及生长特征优良的作母树。虽然,北卡罗来纳州大学研究者们只用于美国五针松(Pinus strobus L.)繁育,但Cohen断定,这种方法多半能适用于其他松树。
Michael A. Cohen, a horticultural specialist at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, points out that a new method of pine propagation allows more rapid, uniform seedlings. It is not always possible to seed pine with desirable properties. The growers can by no means guarantee that most of the seedlings have good heredity. At present, the genetic nature can only be obtained by cutting and grafting. However, these two methods are time-consuming and costly, and are not stable due to incompatible rootstocks. Reproduction with needles is not only simple, but also the seedlings can maintain the genetic characteristics of the mother tree. General choose 5-7 years old, volume, shape and growth characteristics of the mother tree. Although researchers at the University of North Carolina are only used for breeding Pinus strobus L., Cohen concludes that this method is mostly applicable to other pine trees.
