Organized and sponsored by the Acoustical Society of China (ASC),the FirstASC Members‘s Representative Conference was held from Nov.7—11 ,1988 inTong Ji Univ.,Shanghai.The third meeting of the First Council of the ASC and thefifth meeting of its Standing Committee were held before the Conference.148 representatives attended the Conference.In the opening ceremony,Prof.Ying Chongfu,President of the ASC,gave theopening address with a brief description of the preparation and the aim of the Confer-ence.Prof.Guan Dinghua,Vice President and Secretary-General of the ASC,Pres-ented a work report on behalf of the First Council of the ASC.In his repory,Prof.Guan summarized the activities and development of the ASC in the past 3 years.The
