During the Second World War, as a small country on the west coast of the European continent, Portugal consistently maintained its position and maintained its neutral status from 1939 to 1945. Without regard to the fact that Portuguese Timor was occupied by the Commonwealth troops in 1941 and occupied by the Japanese forces after 1942, it can be said that Portugal basically avoided the disaster brought about by the war. Portugal remained neutral during World War II, but did not mean that it had nothing to do with World War II, far from the fact. To a certain extent, Portugal’s neutrality is not neutral in its traditional sense, but rather neutral in the non-belligerent state.
