黑格尔说:“美的艺术对于了解哲理和宗教往往是一个钥匙,而且对于许多民族来说,是唯一的钥匙。”(《美学》第一卷第10页)的确,就各门优秀艺术的最终目的而言,它们与形形色色的哲理和宗教有着千丝万缕的内在联系。但是这种内在联系在表现形态上,还存在着明显与隐晦、紧密与疏远的种种差别。因此在表述时,也存在着难易、宽窄的问题。从这个角度考虑,汉魏六朝游仙诗是一个较为适中的探讨对象。汉魏六朝时期,是中国哲学和宗教走向成熟的时代,也是文学渐趋自觉的时代。游仙诗的生长过程,较为清晰地体现了时代思潮的兴衰、更迭,体现了各个不同时期人生关注的兴趣所在。
