Like many brands that have experienced many setbacks and failures, the road to BenQ’s brand name is not easy. In 1984, a remote, shabby factory in Maple Village, Taoyuan, Taiwan, BenQ Computer (formerly BenQ) was started up here as a foundry for Acer. At the time, Acer received a large OEM PC order from the United States, and Acer did not have sufficient capacity inside, so Acer just wanted to build a PC factory. Separation of this factory from Acer, named BenQ, for two reasons: first, there was a need to have a large factory building a factory, while many textile mills in Taiwan were relocated to Southeast Asia and could use the plant they left behind, but these The factory buildings are not located in Hsinchu Science and Technology Parks. However, the management of science and technology parks requires that high-tech companies not set up branch offices outside the park. If they do, they can not call the name of the original company. Therefore, the factory can only name BenQ separately. Second, Acer did not have enough money to build such a big factory at that time, so a big shareholder was introduced, accounting for 50% of BenQ’s shares. Later, in order to facilitate management, the majority shareholder’s shares were merged into Acer, and BenQ became Acer100% Holding subsidiaries.
