黄心芹是上海地区传统的优良品种,长期以来,因其易管理、香味浓而深受菜农和市民的欢迎.但随着上海地区经济的迅速发展,市民生活的日益改善,黄心芹的产量与品质已难以适应“高优高”农业的发展以及市民对蔬菜质量的高要求.为此,上海农学院曹锦成等教师,从1986年起用黄心芹为母本,美芹为父本,从蕾期开始进行多次授粉的方法,产生了第一代杂交种子,并连续三年从杂交后代中经过精心选育,终于得到了性状优良,整齐一致的杂交新品种,定名为上农玉芹.
