Objective To study the effects of occupational exposure to hydrogen sulfide on workers’ electrocardiogram. Methods A total of 13 385 employees participating in the annual physical examinations of Beijing Chemical Industry System from 2005 to 2008 were selected as research objects. General personal information and ECG data of subjects were collected. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the influence of hydrogen sulfide exposure on ECG abnormalities. Results The incidence of abnormal electrocardiogram was 16.40% in the exposed group and 11.42% in the non-exposed group. Myocardial ischemia, Wolff-Parkinson’s syndrome and exposure to hydrogen sulfide are related to each other, and are not affected by gender and length of service; exposure to hydrogen sulfide increases myocardial ischemia in workers after adjustment for gender, age and length of service (OR = 1.880 ) And WPW syndrome (OR = 6.731). Conclusions Occupational exposure to hydrogen sulfide may have some impact on the electrocardiographic performance of workers with myocardial ischemia and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. The impact on other ECG abnormalities needs to be further analyzed in larger sample sizes.
