“年龄”一词,现代汉语常用,意思是“人或动植物已经生存的年数”(《现代汉语词典》),但主要还是用于人。这个词出现得比较早,《礼记·文王世子》:“古者谓年龄,齿亦龄也。”中古、近代汉语中则已经用得普遍起来了,如南朝梁沈约《奉华阳王外兵》:“餐玉驻年龄,吞霞反容颜。”宋陆游《乞祠禄札子》:“实缘年龄衰迈,气血凋耗,夏秋之际,痼疾多作。”“年龄”是个同义复合词。
