南疆特定的气候条件适合种植中早熟、早熟棉花。新疆的育种单位以“优质、高产、早熟、抗病”为育种目标，先后育出早中熟棉花品种新陆中1、2、3、4、5、6、7、8、9、10、11号，但在南疆占植棉面积的比率很少，分析原因有以下几点。
