The use of thermal analysis methods in polymer science is well known. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) are commonly used to determine the glass transition temperature of elastomers. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) was used to determine the composition of the compound, including plasticizer, polymer, carbon black and mineral filler content. Thermal analysis is also often used for coating and adhesive analysis to predict process and performance. We have previously described using a rotorless rheometer to analyze rubber-metal (RTM) adhesives.
