The purpose of this paper is to investigate the corrosion and dissolution of TCu220C. The Population Council designed the TCu220C, an IUD that uses copper sleeves instead of copper wires in an effort to extend the life span. The authors collected TCu220C using two groups, one for corrosion studies and the other for copper dissolution rates. A total of 136 specimens were randomly selected, of which 85 were applied for 6 to 158 months to study the local anatomy and erosion of the copper sheath.
