Energy saving is a major and urgent issue for the steel industry, which consumes a great deal of energy. The blast furnace hot blast heat recovery system described in this paper can recover the sensible heat in the low temperature combustion exhaust gas discharged from the hot blast stove and preheat the air and gas which are the energy of the hot blast stove so as to save high quality fuel such as coke oven gas. The device was jointly developed by Nippon Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Chemical Machinery Co., Ltd., and was officially put into production in October 1979.
