注水开发的油田,在自喷开采的条件下,随着开采时间的增长,原油产量和含水率将不断地发生变化。按照注采平衡的原则,注水量也应随着变化。考虑到注水设备的能力和管网系统应满足最大注水量的要求,预测最大注水量及其出现时期,对经济地规划注水站的规模和布局,设计注水管网系统是十分必要的。为了保持注采平衡,注入水的体积应等于从油层中采出来的油和水的体积之和,即:
