党的十四届四中全会作出的《关于加强党的建设几个重大问题的决定》指出:“我国是幅员辽阔、人口众多的发展中国家,我们党面临着艰巨复杂的改革和建设任务。只有维护中央的权威,才能增强党的凝聚力和战斗力;才能保证国家统一、民族团结和社会稳定;才能保障改革开放和现代化建设的顺利进行,逐步实现各族人民的共同富裕;实现社会主义物质文明与精神文明的共同发展。这是全党和全国人民的最高利益所在。”维护中央的权威,也是邓小平同志的一贯思想和主张。进入新的历史时期以来,特别是改革开放和现代化建设的每一重要关头,邓小平同志总是在强调大力发扬党内民主的同时,十分强调党的集中统一,强调维护中央权威。坚持和实现邓小平同志这一思想,就可以为确保党和国家长治久安、社会主义事业兴旺发达奠定基础。

Since entering a new historical period, especially at the crucial juncture of reform, opening up and modernization, Comrade Deng Xiaoping has always emphasized the great efforts to carry forward inner-party democracy while placing great emphasis on the party’s centralization and unification and on safeguarding the central authority. By upholding and realizing Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s thinking, we can lay the foundation for ensuring the party members and the country’s lasting peace and stability and the prosperity and development of the cause of socialism.
