In the process of Asian globalization, important changes have taken place in the transformation of rural society in Southeast Asia. Instead of relying mainly on land-based agricultural production under state and market control, it relies more on the capital-based production and labor markets that have complex links with the regionalization of global markets and development. This requires anthropologists to make fundamental changes in the issue of globalization and conceptualization. The concept of knowledge space implies a strong demand for political and “in-between” research on knowledge and helps to understand how different actors participate in the process of globalization through micro-politics. Thai anthropologists not only pay more attention to cross-border issues, but also actively promote academic exchanges and cooperation in the region so as to link themselves with the globalization of Asia.
