Many standard drawings and design drawings both at home and abroad stipulate that the reinforced concrete pipe culvert shall be covered with a layer of clay over 10 cm in thickness so as to prevent the water in the soil surrounding the culvert from invading into the steel bar Corrosion of steel bars and leaching of concrete inside concrete. We have understood and observed reinforced concrete culverts installed on roads or sewers, etc., and also dissected 80-cm diameter reinforced concrete culverts (no clay overlay) set in wet areas in 1943. The observation was Satisfactory, concrete and steel adhesion is very close without rust. Therefore, I think reinforced concrete culvert can not do the clay overlay, but should improve the water resistance of concrete
