况周颐为晚清四大词家之一,其《蕙风词话》与《白雨斋词话》及《人间词话》并称清末三大词话,示学者以学词津筏,且被朱强邨誉为‘自有词话以来,无此有功词学之作’,故向来研究者众。然而况氏著作繁富,无论随笔、札记,序跋、校勘文字中均散见其论词观点,故《蕙风词话》实未能囊括其论词观点,且况氏著述繁多,各本间又颇有异同,故虽迭经订补,遗漏尚多。如早年唐圭璋先生即就久阮庵笔记》、《香东漫笔》等增辑为《蕙风词话续编》,
