为了达到全面同化印第安人的目的,美国联邦政府对印第安人推行了同化教育政策。在推行同化教育的过程中,保留地外寄宿学校由于其特殊的作用而受到政府的青睐。保留地外寄宿学校切断了印第安学生与保留地部落的联系,强迫印第安学生接受白人的文化教育。保留地外寄宿学校的创办在客观上对提高印第安人的文化教育水平、开阔他们的视野起了一定的积极作用,但给印第安人带来的更多的则是灾难。
In order to achieve the goal of assimilating Indians, the federal government of the United States has implemented an assimilation education policy for Indians. In the process of assimilation education, the retention of off-board boarding schools is favored by the government because of its special role. Preservation of off-board boarding schools cut off the connection of Indian students with the reservation tribes and forced Indian students to accept white cultural education. Preservation of off-board boarding schools objectively raised the cultural level of Indian education, broaden their horizons played a positive role, but to bring more to the Indian disaster.
