在国共合作推动国民革命兴起的背景下,“火烧《晨报》”事件引发了舆论界分歧,产生了以国民党右派和共产党舆论为核心导向的“暴民运动”说与“国民革命”说,自由派学者亦持不同态度。客观上看,这是一场激进的学生运动:一方面,随着国民革命运动兴起,青年学生思想趋向革命,火烧报馆是其自身不成熟及非理性判断的表现;另一方面,其行动又具有内在合理性,《晨报》的反革命言论才导致其引火上身,此事件不能抹杀青年学生助益国民革命的事实。此外,舆论界分歧表征了各方思想的分流。
