Reuters Cleveland, November 14, 1979 Scientists at the Cleveland Clinic said they have developed a way to identify infants who are at risk of sudden death from a shaker. Every year, 10,000 children die in the United States. Sudden death in a shaker usually occurs in infants under one year of age who suddenly stop breathing without warning and die while in bed. The new system, which is still undergoing experimentation, is to install electrodes on the baby’s head, detect the electrical signals that tell the brain what it is, and measure its normalized “click” response to the computer.
