The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of general practitioner job satisfaction and to explore its influential factors, hoping to provide a theoretical reference for the reform practice. Methods In this study, a mature survey tool was used to survey 215 general practitioners in urban community health service institutions by stratified sampling method. Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to examine the influencing factors of general practitioner job satisfaction. Results Satisfaction degree of career achievement was 53.74%, career development satisfaction was 45.12%, job satisfaction was 20.19%, self-goal satisfaction was 28.80%, skill satisfaction was 43.13%. The occupational satisfaction of general practitioners were as follows: job embedding (β = 0.381, P <0.01), changeable leadership (β = 0.234, P <0.01), job satisfaction (β = 0.197, P <0.01) Revenue (β = 0.147, P <0.01). Conclusion The general occupational satisfaction of general practitioners is low, and the general driving force of general practitioners is as follows: career-driven, career-driven and career-driven. General practitioners are more concerned about career development and achievement of their own goals, of course, more concerned about career income.
