Objective: To investigate the possible therapeutic effects of mistletoe alkaloids (MA) on sepsis in mice with cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). Methods: Intraperitoneal injections of mistletoe alkaloids were performed 24h before surgery and immediately after surgery. The survival rate of the mice was observed over 7 days, and hematological parameters and cytokines were measured. Results: The vitiligo alkaloids can increase the survival rate of CLP mice (0%~33%, P=0.02), and can significantly reduce the concentrations of TNF-α (P=0.0008) and IL-6 (P=0.006) in blood. And can increase the apoptosis of part of the white pulp in the spleen. Conclusion: The alkaloids of mistletoe may reduce the inflammatory response of the body through reducing the expression of inflammatory factors and reducing the inflammatory cells, and then increase the survival rate of CLP mice.
