Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists recently announced that it has developed the smallest ever InGaAs transistor, which is only 22 nanometers in length. As silicon transistors are reduced to nanoscale, the amount of current generated by the device is also diminishing, limiting its speed, which will eventually lead to the end of Moore’s Law. In order to continue Moore’s Law, scientists have been looking for alternatives to silicon to produce larger currents at smaller scales, one of which is indium gallium arsenide.
