一、引言张之洞的《书目答问》无疑是一本很有影响的古籍举要目录,这本问世于一百余年前(1876年)的书,自从它问世起,就一直作为指导人们读书治学门径的重要工具而被使用,由于它确实孕育滋培了许多近现代学者,它的价值从来就没有被人贬低否认过,并且有些出于善意的先生在劝导现在的青年后辈治学之时,仍将此书推荐出来,并说这就是门径(至少作者就曾亲炙过)……不过,在肯定《答问》的价值的同时,再回过头来看一看张之洞作此书的目的及当时的环境,我们就可以看到许许多多值得深思的问题。当时的环境是近代复杂的社会,新旧学说交替,作书的目的是“告语生童而设,非是著述”(《书目答问略例》),即是给一般程度很浅很浅的学生而开的书单,使他们能够较为正确、较为简捷地学到当时所需的知识,成为有用之材。 I.
