The Gansu-Ningxia region in the northwest has been an important livestock husbandry production base in China since ancient times, shepherding a large number of sheep and producing a lot of wool. Due to the differences in natural conditions, the production, quality and types of wool vary from place to place. Since the modern times, the wool in the Gansu-Ningxia region has started to export in large quantities due to the huge demand for wool in the international market, especially the wool blanket industry in the United States, and the limited capability of wool processing and utilization by the domestic wool-spinning enterprises. Because the Gansu-Ningxia region is remote, the local markets surrounding the export of modern wool are still the “barter” exchange mode, inconvenient traffic and the unique transportation of Gansu Ningxia wool.
