The Pompidou Center hosted the “Resynthesis Africa” roadshow from May 25 to August 8, 2005, an overview of hundreds of African contemporary artists throughout the continent. This is the last of a series of exhibitions that have been expressing a viable assumption about the definition and acceptance of African art. The static term “African contemporary art”, which refers to what is emerging as the latest in the global art scene, makes the show a controversial exhibition that has been condemned as a failure to fully cover contemporary African art, It is a paranoid approach by African democrats to the maintenance of African identity, which some planners see as a response to the Eleventh Documentary Exhibition.
