《江南通志》载:西晋武帝太康二年(281年)分置武进县,县治设万绥一带。1988年新编《武进县志》118～122页载:“奔牛区,万绥镇早年称阜通镇,后改兰陵,称‘齐梁故里’”。“万绥乡,这里是南朝齐高帝萧道成、梁武帝萧衍故宅所在,因名万岁镇,绥与岁谐音,后遂名万绥”。《二十四史》的《南史.齐本纪》载:
