Honeywell has made a great effort to use its advanced digital system architecture and high-speed microelectronic technology to achieve an attractive, high-performance digital radio frequency memory (DRFM). This article gives a brief overview of the system requirements for DRFM performance and discusses the structural issues and the ways it can be implemented so that DRFM designers can consider how to meet system performance, price, and reliability requirements. Items discussed included phase and amplitude sampling, module structure, heat loss, high speed silicon and GaAs microelectronics and packaging. It also discusses Honeywell’s DRFM devices under development, system performance data and specifications. Finally, the future development and trend of DRFM technologies and applications are also predicted.
