青铜器摆脱礼法的束缚,是从西周厉王时开始的,亦即青铜文化的晚期。与以前相比,器型种类、纹饰特点及整体风格,都有了不小的改变。揭示的文化内容也更突出工艺的先进性和造型的艺术性,人本位的思想超越了神的至高无上,显示的审美特性日渐浓厚。如西周晚期的名器“刖人方鬲”,以前常被作为残忍奴隶制的具体表现。实际上换个角度来看,西周晚期的制度已近乎礼崩乐坏,人的写实形象出现在青铜器上,还说明创作思维的解放和对于人本身的认识有了提高。可以说,这一时期的器型,在整体上逐渐摆脱了庄重典
