RE oxide and mixed oxide electrodes were prepared by thermal decomposition procedure. The effect of precursor, decomposition temperature and coating times on oxide properties was studied. The results from the measurements of polarization curves for various RE compounds in equimolar NaCI-KCI smelts at 700℃ show that some RE oxide electrodes can decrease anodic overpotential by 50-110 mV at an industrial current density of 0.6 A cm - 2. Repeated experimental errors are less than 30 mV. The electrocatalysis behavior of RE compounds for chlorine evolution reaction at high temperature is in- terpreted from the viewpoint of semiconductor energy-band strticture.
