It is generally believed that the earliest periodical magazines were the Scholar Journal founded in Paris in 1960 and the Philosophical Journal of the Royal Society of London. The appearance of journals is not only the result of the three major cultural movements in Europe in modern times (Renaissance, Science Movement and Enlightenment), but also an important driving force for the cultural movement and a direct result of the formation of modern knowledge institutions and groups of intellectuals.
