The SOLO Classification Assessment is a method of assessment based on a hierarchy of descriptions, created by Professor John Biggs, an Australian scholar. Biggs argued that students should go through the process of change from quantitative change to qualitative change in the process of learning specific knowledge. Every time a transition occurs, students’ cognition of knowledge goes to a higher level. Biggs classifies the student’s learning results into five levels: the pre-structure level, the single-point structure level, the multi-point structure level, the associated structure level, and the expansion of the abstract structure level. According to students’ performance in answering questions, they can judge the stage of their thinking development and then give a reasonable evaluation.
