The awarding evening party of the “2006 Friendship Competition of Ambassador’s Madame on Knowing Chinese Culture organized by the CPAFFC was held on the Jiangnan Renjia Hotel’s floating-on-water stage in Zhouzhuang, Jiangsu on June 5, 2006. Wives of diplomatic envoys to China from 50 countries attended the party.
　　Wang Wenyuan, former vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, inaugurated the party. CPAFFC President Chen Haosu and several thousand guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the All-China Women’s Federation and Suzhou City attended the evening party. The French Tempo Dance Troupe with romance of the French nationality led by the deputy mayor in charge of tourism of Arles City gave wonderful performances at the party.
　　The competition characterized by international and folk art features covered seven categories including Chinese Kunqu Opera, tea ceremony, Chinese songs and poems, Chinese fashion show, handiwork of Chinese knot and papercut. The winners appeared on the stage to receive prizes and gave performance. Wives of the Bangladesh, Slovenian and Libyan envoys performed a part of the Kunqu Opera Peony Pavilion so wonderfully that the gracefulness and reserve of the Chinese traditional opera were fully expressed. The wife of the Nepalese ambassador with her deep and rich voice sang beautifully the song The Vast Sea, Oh, My Hometown in Chinese. The wife of the Vietnamese envoy gave a recitation of the poem Meditation in a Quiet Night with deep feelings, enchanting the audience. The dance performed by the French Tempo Dance Troupe vividly showed the unrestrained, warm and romantic nature of the French nationality. The performances given by the Chinese and foreign artists pushed the enthusiastic atmosphere of the party from one climax to another.
