In 2013, the global newbuilding orders reached 144.8 million DWTs (2,206 vessels and 48.7 million CGTs), an increase of 165% over the 54.5 million DWTs of the previous year. According to Clarkson Research, the total value of newbuilding orders last year was estimated at 103.8 billion U.S. dollars, up 16% on a year-on-year basis.
