德国MTU公司和美国DDC公司以Daimler-Benz公司的OM500柴油机为基础，共同开发出2000系列柴油机。这样，可把OM500系列的8缸载重汽车柴油机拓展出其它用途，并补充了12缸和16缸机型。这种在很短时间内成功开发出的柴油机系列，在船用、载重汽车用、铁路、发电和工业使用的270kW至1343kW功率范围内最佳地满足了用户的要求。在满足所有的边界条件下，它提供了一种功率范围广且经久耐用的经济解决方案。同时，这种柴油机系列仍然忠实于原系列的设计。在采用共同的基本机型情况下，可以充分发挥大批量生产在逻辑计算、技术和经济方面的优势。
Based on Daimler-Benz’s OM500 diesel engine, MTU Germany and DDC USA co-developed the 2000 series diesel engine. In this way, OM500 series of 8-cylinder truck diesel engine can be extended to other uses, and added 12-cylinder and 16-cylinder models. This diesel engine series, developed in a very short period of time, best meets the needs of users in the power range of 270kW to 1343kW for marine, truck, railway, power generation and industrial applications. It provides a wide range of power and long-lasting economic solutions while meeting all boundary conditions. At the same time, this diesel engine series is still faithful to the original series of design. With common basic models, the advantages of high-volume production in logic, technology and economics can be fully realized.
