政府间海洋学委员会(下称海委会)成立于一九六○年。它在历史上和法律上都是联合国教科文组织的一个下属组织。它代表会员国政府执行各种国际海洋科学调查及有关研究计划。作为国际上的一个重要的从事海洋科学调查工作的政府间机构,它的会员国数目已由成立时的四十个增加到现在的八十一个(截止一九七四年九月二十日),其中已将我国列为会员国。我们根据所收集到的资料,把海委会的基本情况简述如下。
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) was established in 1960. It is historically and legally a UNESCO subordinate organization. On behalf of member governments, it implements various international marine science surveys and related research programs. As an important international intergovernmental body engaged in marine scientific investigations, the number of its member states has increased from 40 at the time of its establishment to 81 now (September 20, 1974 ), Of which my country has been listed as a Member State. Based on the information we have collected, we briefly outline the basic situation of the IOC.
