近年来,国内外伊利石粘土岩的利用越来越引起人们的关注。昆阳磷矿凝灰岩粘土,为含钾伊利石水云母粘土岩。它赋存于下寒武统磷矿层的夹层中,厚0.5～7.3米,平均厚2米,过去作为废石抛弃。该矿层广泛分布在滇池约一万平方公里的地区,储量巨大。安宁磷矿区含钾海绿石和粘土矿总储量估计数亿吨。草铺磷矿区风化砂质白云岩(夹层)粘土矿含K_2O 5.92％,储量也很可观。海口尖山矿区为磷质水云母粘土岩,含K_2O 4.55～6.32％,储量虽然不太大,但也可以考虑综合回收。昆阳磷矿的储量也不少。
