The transcription factor antagonist inhibitor of differentiation 3(Id3)has beenimplicated in many diverse developmental,physiological and pathophysiologicalprocesses.Its expression and function is subjected to many levels of complexregulation.This review summarizes the current understanding of these mecha-nisms and describes how they might be related to the diverse functions that havebeen attributed to the Id3 protein.Detailed understanding of these mechanismsshould provide insights towards the development of therapeutic approaches tovarious diseases,including cancer and atherogenesis.
