Eighteenth-century England emerged a number of well-known novelists, such as Defoe, Henry Fielding, Swift, Smit Wright and so on. Closely related to the social background of the time, most of their novels involved descriptions of ocean adventure, commerce and trade, and exoticism. The writers vigorously rendered an attractive overseas theme to the British people, not only with the newly opened Americas by the Western European colonists, the frequently visited South Asia and the Middle East, but also with the mysterious Far East. This article selects Far Eastern world represented by British navigational novels, represented by Defoe and Swift, and discusses the Far Eastern world shaped by writers and the related reasons.
